My GAME Plan is to find suitable computer tutorial programs or software for high school physical science. These programs will include interactive instruction in topics such as metric conversions, speed, force, energy, power, acceleration, waves, etc. The learning strategy that will be utilized is using critical thinking skills (analyzing, synthesizing and evaluating) for problem solving.
I have spent the last few days Googling the topics plus the word "interactive" and at this point I have not found anything that appears to be worth serious evaluation. I have found several simulation programs that are suitable for using in physical science. One site I did locate with guidance from Dr. Krauss' is "Adaptive Curriculum". This site has some programs/tutorials that may prove usable ....but they are not free. I am still looking and trying new search ideas and would welcome any suggestions that anyone may have.

I imagine there is not that much out there because of the “level” of physics.
ReplyDeleteCredit recovery is a popular/ money making idea. So I know there are quite a few companies that offer what you’re looking for in a general science or even biology class.
Free is the magic word.
I wonder if any local universities would be willing to share some of their resources. There has to be online/ lab components that they use, and would be willing to share with a local school.
Good Luck. I have spent quite a bit of time looking at math versions, and I have been unsatisfied in my results.
Richard, I believe that a teacher cannot go wrong with tutorial programs. Both teachers and students can benefit from tutorial programs.Tutorials also help to develop self-directed learners.
ReplyDeleteI am in the process of searching the web for tutorials that can teach me how to use some of the digital media that I am reading about in our course text, so that I will be able to use them in my classroom.
One thing to recommend is checking forums or community sites for science teachers and professionls. There might be a few that can recommend free software or ones that are worth your school testing and purchasing for your department. Most software developers have discounts for schools or it might be something that you can talk to them about. I am amazed at how these search engines can also help you suggestions. Just don't give up and look to other science teachers in your school, district or state. You can even create some type of video where experiments are being done or where you can record nature in action. Bring your experience to your students. Makes you credible and you can create your own tutorial.
