Developing Proficiency in NETS - S, Using the GAME Plan Process
The GAME Plan Process requires one to think about and use specific, organized steps to master or learn a new skill. The ISTE NETS and Performance Indicators for Students (NETS-S) are intended to help students prepare to work, live and contribute to their communities in general and society as a whole. The skills involved in the NETS for Students include the ability to: demonstrate creativity and innovation, communicate and collaborate, conduct research and use information, use critical thinking skills to solve problems and make decisions and use technology effectively and productively. I will utilize the GAME Plan Process with my students to give them a method for becoming proficient at the skills outlined in the NETS for Students by seeing to it that they use a systematic, organized approach to guide their efforts in obtaining the outlined skills.

Lots of references to NETS standards
ReplyDeleteI started thinking about all the standards we have. Personally I have National, State, and District standards for mathematics. Now I have technology standards too. What really drives what we teach?
I believe in standards base approach, but I have to say I go off my district standards. All the other standards need to be incorporated into my districts standards. Honestly even at that, it is my experiences that we have a curriculum review, pick a text, and more times than not that becomes the standards. And from there, all the teachers at my school get together and agree what sections to teach and in what order.
You said, “I will utilize the GAME Plan Process with my students to give them a method for becoming proficient at the skills outlined in the NETS for Students by seeing to it that they use a systematic, organized approach to guide their efforts in obtaining the outlined skills.”
The key here is systematic, organized approach. That really is an important skill that we should all be teaching. Good luck with your future game plans.
Richard,
ReplyDeleteThe other important aspect to the NETS is their focus on 21st century skills. You have definitely made that distinction when you state these standards are preparing our students for society in general. Technology is taking over society and the NETS give us a great place to start when it comes to what our students should know. I like the idea of using the GAME plan because it allows teachers to support students in learning these skills by presenting an outline with specific steps.
I really like your approach to implementing your game plan. The standard you have chosen is very important and really needed by our students today. Good luck in reaching your goal.
ReplyDeleteRichard,
ReplyDeleteOur thoughts were similar on the NETS standards. They are excellent guidelines that will help prepare our students for graduation and beyond. In addition, they ask us to reinforce and teach utilizing a method that students truly enjoy. It's really a win-win situation.
