I am not having the success I had hoped for in finding tutorial software for assistance in high school physical science. I have decided to modify my plan as such, G) Learn more about using digital tools and resources such as computer tutorials and/or mind tools to personalize learning activities and address diverse learning styles. The next phase A) will be to look for and hopefully find information on using tutorials and/or mind tools in biology and/or physical science to address diverse learning styles by personalizing activities. To do this I will use a search engine online. The third and fouth phase M and E will remain virtually the same.
So far I have learned that free software for physical science tutorials does not exist and that I have to find an alternative solution to helping students with diverse learning styles.

I am curious, are you finding that students are not understanding the information, or not honestly completing their work and thinking about the information?
ReplyDeleteI find this true in math a lot. I am always getting emails from parents asking what they can do to help their child. A lot of students are not responsible for their own learning. They wiz through homework, do not ask questions in class, then tell their parents they do not know why their test grades are low.
The burden is on us as educators to make sure students learn. It is rare that I get students that truly try everything I have to offer them for help and still do not understand. Usually when that point does come, it turns out they are in the wrong class because they did not take the pre-requisite class serious.
It is definitely good to offer different avenues for students to learn, but how far do we have to bend over? School is work, and in upper level classes students are going to struggle. I think struggling is part of the learning process.
Maybe I am extra cynical right now because I just got an email from a parent who wants to have their child drop my class because their low grade is going to hurt her GPA. This student worked hard all last week and still did not do well on the test. One week, come on. Learning takes time, and even longer if your playing catch up. Even the parents want instant results.
So, I went off on a tangent and I forgot my point, good luck with your resource.
Richard, I am so sorry that you were not able to carry out the action plan that you had intended to. My goal is also to use technological resources in my classes.Concerning the tutorial software, you could try downloading some videos and other resources to use in the classroom with your students. I believe that the physical science is an important subject that you can use different aspect of real life situations to apply to the subject.
